Outlaws in Texas

Jimmy Jones, LITTLE ROCK, AR. (March 12th, 2010) - The day has finally arrived to get my first race action of 2010. I am heading down to Lonestar Speedway for tonight's World of Outlaws Sprint Series show.

It should be a good one as they are expecting around 30 cars. This will be my first shoot with the new camera in a real race environment and I am very excited about it. Last weekend's test at I-30 went well, but I didn't get a chance to shoot anything at night, so this will be another learning experience.

I want to give a big thanks to Justin Sturch who is driving today. For those of you that don't know, he is a Sprint Car driver from Benton, Arkansas...and a damn good one I must say!

Things are coming along on my website and I was told today that it should be back up hopefully this evening.

Jimmy Jones, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 3rd, 2010) - On Saturday, March 5th, I will be shooting the I-30 Speedway Car Show and test-n-tune.

The racing season is right around the corner, with many teams taking to track this weekend. Already there has been action in Florida, as Wayne Johnson was crowned King of the 360's in winning last weekend's 9th Annual Ronald Laney Memorial Winter Nationals at East Bay Raceway in Tampa, Florida.

Originally, I had planned to make that event, but a magazine assignment now has me working the World of Outlaws Sprint Series race at the Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore. I will be interviewing Sam Hafertepe Jr. for an upcoming article in FlatOut Magazine.

Website Work Continues

Jimmy Jones, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (February 14, 2010) - Work continues on my new website. Scholar Brad and I have been meeting regarding the look and some changes are on the way. I want to again say a special thanks to Brad for his work with my site. He's doing a fantastic job helping to make my vision a reality.

People continue to join my message board and some discussion has started. I encourage all interested parties to join the Jones Motorsports Media messageboard.

Racing season continues to get closer. In a few weeks I will be shooting my first event as I-30 Speedway hosts their annual car show and test-n-tune. I am looking forward to getting out with my new camera for this kick off to the 2010 season.

Speaking of the new camera, I will have a brand new Nikon D300s in my hands Friday afternoon. Along with the camera, I will have a new Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 wide angle telephoto lens. I am very excited about my new rig and ready to break it in!

Website Launch

I am very proud to announce the launch of my new website. www.jonesmotorsportsmedia.com will be my web presence beginning today and will be a showcase for my work along with being a central communication point for my clients.

I want to give a very big thanks to Scholar Brad for his work on my site. He, along with his wife Laura, who is a brilliant webmaster, brought my dream to life and I can't thank him enough for the contribution of his time and effort on this project. God bless you brother!

A Vision Realized
So, why did I decide to create website? Well, as my work has progressed over the last year, I have found that people are very curious about me and the question seemed to always arise if I have a website. I really hated to tell people that I am "working on one." So, after nearly a year, I finally can say "YES I HAVE ONE!"

Who is this Jimmy Jones Guy?
Well, to put it simple, I am just a guy with a camera...trying to carve my niche. Prior to last year, my main focus has been writing. I am a writer for FLATOUT Magazine and have written articles on noted drivers such as Tim Crawley, Tony Bruce Jr., Gary Taylor and Coleman Gulick. I also penned an article on J&J Auto Racing's Jack Elam. I also had the honor of writing Mr. Elam's Bio for the induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa. I consider this to my greatest accomplishment in writing to date.

So, where does the photography fit into this story? I have always loved the art. I bought an SLR back in 1990 and took film pictures for 15 years before making the move to digital format. I bought a DSLR last year because I really wanted to be a complete journalist. Shoot my own pics for my own articles. So, I bought a Nikon D60 and began to learn how to do it. Along the way, I met some great people who have been very helpful. I want to mention Brandon Anderson here especially. He has been a great source of advice and has really helped mentor me. He's a really sharp photog. I also want to thank Phil Bowden and Wally Hampton. Both of those guys have been more than willing to give advice.

Bring on March
Friday, March 12th can't get here fast enough. I will be shooting the World of Outlaws race at Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas. From there, I plan to shoot the final night of the Mini-Sprint 600 Nationals at I-30 Speedway and then on March 19th and 20th, the ASCS National Tour opener at Devil's Bowl Speeway in Mesquite, Texas.
